As a landscape photographer I always used L-brackets for my camera on my tripod. For those who frequently use the tripod during their photographic sessions it is a highly recommended accessory, can summarize these motivations into 3 main ones, let’s see which ones:

  1. Speed up the shooting: L-brackets use the Arca-Swiss standard quick-release system that makes it incredibly fast to attach your camera to the ball head on your tripod.
  2. Gives you back sharpen images: a standard tripod plates gives you back smaller contact point on the camera, and increase the risk of the camera rotating on the plate, with the L-bracket this risk is practically eliminated.
  3. Protect your camera: The L-bracket wraps around the camera body and acts like a protective shell. It’s particularly useful for preventing dings and scratches on the base of the camera.

With reference to this type of product I use the dedicated Sunwayfoto L-Bracket for my Nikon D850The PNL-D850 is a custom made L-bracket that specifically fits on D850, like all Sunwayfoto products, this one is also built with excellent materials, hard-anodized finish ensures it’s resistant to abrasion and corrosion. Despite its resistance it is very light weighing just over 100 grams, which makes it a non-invasive accessory to carry around mounted on the camera.

PNL-D850 comes with a camera screw which makes it easy to fix when mounted on the tripod, the supplied key ensures a firm grip. The main use I make of it is obviously for vertical shooting so it is easy to use, comfortable and extremely simple to switch between the various heights thanks to the captive slot. The side part is open to allow easy access to the cables or to easily reach the memory card.

With reference to the points I initially talked about, this L-bracket does its job very well.

  •  PNL-D850 certainly makes the switch between horizontal and vertical photography very easy. Talking about to vertical photography it elimiates out all the discomfort that I personally complained about with heavy equipment like mine of changing the viewing angle or even worse of the camera slipping.
  • I found it very useful for greater stability and therefore for sharper and more focused images
  • Protects the camera from accidental drops

In conclusion the PNL-D850 is certainly very valid and well built. For an accessory specifically dedicated to a product like Nikon D850, it also has a reasonable cost considering the quality of the manufacturing materials and the attention to detail
