Postcard from Venice

The famous Ponte dei Sospiri in Venice gives this name because tradition has it that, at the time of the Serenissima, the prisoners, crossing it, sighed in front of the prospect of seeing for the last time the outside world

The bridge is one of the most popular destinations in the lagoon city and that small space that faces the bridge is photographed by thousands of tourists every day, making its way through the crowd is not easy practically at all hours of the day

I made this frame from some bracketing shots handheld, I then used the brightest shots to lighten the areas of shadows inside the canal

As I mentioned above, I used the brightest shots to lighten the shadow areas of the channel, obviously helping me with the luminosity masks applied to the darks. Once this sets done, I corrected the color cast and I applied a warmer filter mixing it with a colder filter

I applied details, dodge and burn and orton effect using my panel. I fixed lights and darks using luminosity masks applied to curves layer, creating the right contrast between sky and buildings

As final step I launched a vignette slightly increasing the light in the central part of the frame

I hope you will find all this informations usefull. I love to ear it from you!

Giuseppe Sapori - Misty trails

As you easily guess we are in Venice 🙂 There are many years that I was missing from this amazing and beautiful city, that always leaves me literally speechless. I went back to Venice with this picture in mind, a light trail of the passage of boats under the Accademia Bridge. The Accademia Bridge although it isn’t a historic bridge (is newly built entirely of wood) is a necessary step to connect across the south of Venice, Sestriere Dorsoduro, with the district of San Marco. From the Accademia Bridge you can admire one of the best views of Venice, the “Canal Grande” with all its wonderful sights and in the horizon the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute. That day there was a lot of fog in the city and although the dome at the bottom is a bit hidden by a foggy effect, in my opinion, this gives an interesting landscape of Venice out of the ordinary.

To realize this image, I started taking photos just before the blue hour to finish to make the last shots in the dark late, I made 12 shots (some discarted) with various exposures that helped me to take various boat light trails. Then I started from a clean light and color shot and then, gradually, I added the other exposures as layers in Photoshop to add trails on the water.

Below Rialto

I have been many times in Venice but I never managed to take a photo that satisfied me of Rialto‘s bridge. Below Rialto is the right angle that I always wanted to give to this bridge, taking the image from the landing dock for gondolas.

Venice high tide beginnings

The phenomenon of high water in Venice is common in winter and autumn. This photo shows a principe of raising of the water level. Obviously I could shoot this photo with confidence as the water level still rather low. I processed this picture with Photomatix from 3 exposures. I used Photoshop with layer masks to emphasize the colors and details stand out in some areas of the photo.
