I returned as a sure shot in this wood that I know very well, in a location not far from my hometown. I come here many times since I was a child but only recently I discovered the photographic potential of this place

Here I begin to know the trees and their peculiarities like this trunk with a particular shape that seems to remember that of two limbs facing the sky behind a gorgeous mid-afternoon light.

In this place together with other spots that you will see in the next posts that I have in mind to create the next photographic workshop to discover these places with you there will be developments in the coming months in this regard 🙂

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I realized this capturing the images using focus stacking and bracketed shots in order to create easily digital blending with my panel TTS Pro. I fixed the lights and shadows using luminosity masks, I increased contrast and darkened the scene to emphatize lights

I launched a dark orton effect and I correct some lights using dodge and burn, as final step I created a vignette to increase the dark mood of the image

The Hills of Val d’Orcia Pt.2

Tags :

This week I continue with a collection of images captured in the suggestive Val d’Orcia in Tuscany. Side the images published last week are added these, some taken in very famous locations in the area and also many of these captured with a telephoto that in this area helps a lot to exalt the beauty of the place and his landscapes

This second collection it is entirely captured from the top of some hills, details of some very suggestive farms at various times of the day, I love the alternation of light and the contrasts that are created by playing among the details of the hills and trees

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

This series is composed by single shots so no digital blendings was done for this images. As the previous post I applied the same “treatment” for these shots: increase details, applied a warm filter and decreased some highlights in the sky

For some shots I also applied a soft orton effect, I increased a little bit contrast and fixed colours using my panel TTS Pro. As final step I applied a soft vignette to all the images to give more prominence to the main subject

Crossroads

Tags :

As the first photo of 2021 I post a photo that I found from some of my old shots of the Dolomites, unfortunately in a period where is not easy to travel, my photographic resources are decreasing 🙂 but I always try to ensure new elements on all my social networks every week

This is small alpine lake, is one of my favorite mountain spots, if not one of the most photographed by me in the latests years, as in winter the surface of the lake freezes but without snow, a feature that I often look for in lakes in winter but it’s not easy to find anywhere. This is because the whole valley is crossed by icy currents but the altitude is not very high

About the shot I captured two series of exposures in focus stacking in order to have an image totally in focus, every series of exposure was done in bracketing mode, so I had the chance to digital blend every series before proceed with focus stacking

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I digital blended every exposure series before proceed to focus stack the shot to achieve a perfectly focused image. The next step was to add details and enhnace colours using TTS Pro dedicated effects

I fixed the highlights and shadows using  luminosity masks, I applied the same luminosity masks on curves to have a precise adjustment layer to enhance contrasts. I correct color cast on the sky and on the mountain, I pushed up some shadows on the forest and I slightly decreased the whole image luminosity

With hue/saturation tool I fixed more the colours and I created a small vignette using color efex pro filter

As always I hope you will find this usefull. I love to ear this from you!

Last Autumn Flashes

Tags :

A image series of autumn colors captured in the countryside of northern Italy in Friuli some time ago. As I wrote in my guide how to photograph the beauty of autumn colours in the search for the right autumnal atmosphere it is important to take advantage by fog and clouds

Luckily I came across scenarios characterized by important fogs and low clouds that helped me to increase the autumn atmosphere of my shots. this series of images comes from all different places but obviously all within the same geographical region

The common line of these shots is that all these images are not the result of a planning or scouting for a location; they are all captured while I was driving my car and along the way I found these view, I pulled up the car on the side of the road and started shooting

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

These images are the result of all single shots, therefore no digital blending has been done here, however I have always used luminosity masks to correct exposure, contrast, shadows, highlights, etc…

In all my images I applied a strong orton effect to increase the autumn mood of the shots and I also increased this using the glow tool along the most darker areas

I increased details selectively, I increased colours and fixed the color cast in all the images using TTS Pro. I made some crops to make some images more interesting to the viewer and increased the vignetting on all the images

I really hope you will find this usefull. I’m always happy to ear this from you!

In the Wood

Tags :

A small series of images that I collected during my latest photo session inside the wood. I waited here until sunset to catch the colors of autumn and to give more prominence to the leaves. The sun filtering through the branches of the trees was also a strong inspiration for me, as my previous post, for that as well as an important point of energy in the photo

The first image is a bit of a classic of autumn photos although I have never taken anything like this before, on the other two I tried two different point of view

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I made for all the shots very similar edits. I captured all the shots with no brackets so every image is a single shot, I didn’t use any digital blending here, but at the same time I used for all the fixes TTS Pro with I launched orton effect, increased glow, details, contrast and warmth

I also increased the color vibrance to push the red color up, I increased the yellow tone of the sky and pushed up the highlights, I also added a smart vignette effect to the image to increase the sense of darkness in the wood

I hope you will find this informations usefull. I love to ear this from you!

Bamboo

Tags :

I love photographing forests, and the light that filters through them trees. Bamboo forests are even more fascinating given the size of the stems that once surround them

After visiting the famous Arashiyama bamboo forest two years ago in Japan, I no longer had the opportunity to admire this kind of forests until I found this one

In the city center of Rome there is a very well preserved botanical garden, the structure depends on the Department of Environmental Biology of the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and and hosts over 3000 different plant species. Inside the botanic garden there is too a small but very beautiful and particular bamboo forest

All the shots you see therefore come from this location. I really like the perspective of shooting towards the sky since as mentioned above the bamboo tends to wrap you up, therefore the idea was to convey a feeling of openness towards the sky and towards the light

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I captured all the shots without brackets, every image is a single shot edited without the use of digital blending this time. For every image I made the same editing passages:

I increase highlights using luminosity masks, after I increased details using TTS Pro filters and with the same panel I launched orton effect and dodge and burn with I fixed all the lights over the bamboo

After increasing a color vibrance and fix the green colors similar to all the images the last touch was to increase the dark mood of the picture putting a dark vignette that gives more attention to the sky lights

I hope you will find this usefull! I love to ear that from you!

The Secret Garden

Tags :

I finally go back to do some excursions in search of interesting points to photograph and I recently discovered this small waterfall that is located in a place not far from Rome

The small waterfall is located at the end of a stone building consisting of a series of ponds which in turn flow into other smaller waterfalls. The scenery surrounding this place is full of nature, a dense vegetation let a magnificent light filter over it

I take a bracketed shot series here, but I managed the shots without bringing too much hihger the exposure in oder to give to the viewer the sense of lights and shadows was here

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I take 5 bracketed shots here but I blended only few exposures using TTS Pro, in particular I mainly managed the image using the darker exposures

After this I increased the yellow light coming from the sky with a warm filter applied to luminosity masks, after this I increased details selectively excluding foliage and water

I launched a orton effect as I usually do in all my pictures and I increased the color vibrance to incrase the yellow light in the sky and the beautiful green of the leafs

As final step I darkened the image a little bit to give more the sense of darkness and leave some foreground part to the viewer’s imagination

I hope you will find this usefull! I’m happy to ear this from you!

Capri

Tags :

This is a picture from 2019, I take this shot in the beautiful island of Capri this is the view o classical Faraglioni from the stairs leading to the beach in front of them

During the walk through the beach the dense vegetation does not always make it possible to see the two Faraglioni rocks in the sea but I found this opening by chance which also created an interesting compositional framing

I post this photo after a year because even this like the previous post I initially discarted it, in fact in this photo the largest rock of the two Faraglioni is covered by vegetation but it is in any case a very interesting composition

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I digital blended the shots using TTS Pro, I fixed highlights and shadow using luminosity masks. I added a warm filter to the sky using luminosity masks and color efex pro filter, than I added orton effect to create a soft dreamy effect

To lighten the dark of the foliage I used dodge and burn to lighten the shadows and light bleeding to increase the warm of the sky

After adding details on the whole image, I removed the effect on the sea and as final step, increased the contrast on the rocks

I really hope you will find this usefull! Love to ear this from you!

Afterlight

I have a beautiful remember of this afternoon when I went to this lake, the light was fantastic and the sun peeked through the clouds and the mountains

I have long been looking for a spot where I could take the beautiful reflections of the lake and I waited for the moment that the light filtered through the clouds, the colors of the lake that changed in the sunlight were beautiful and made the atmosphere warm and magical

The light intervals were really fast and I happened to lose some of them but I managed to capture this moment, the light coming from the left was much stronger than what is shown in the photo, I eliminated the lens flare using layer mask with the other expousure taken before

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

Although I captured the scene in different moments of light the result of this photo is not a digital blending, I used the other shots to remove lens flare and light imperfections of the main shot but basically I worked on a single shot

I started with a variation of colors increasing the warm tones, then I raised the details by removing the effect on the reflections of the water

With orton effect I increase the sense of softness of the scene to mitigate the strongness of details throught the trees and on the mountains, I raised up the light using dodge an burn and fixed the contrast using curves applied to luminosity masks

I darkened the scene increasing the purple tones, as last step I increased sharpness on the mountain peaks and on the branches of the trees

I hope you will find this usefull. I like to ear this from you!

From Red to Green

Tags :

Here is my first photo published in 2020, for this image I resume the location of my last photo published, I am talking about the beautiful Dolomites and its incredibles scenery

These are the waterfalls of Fanes, imposing waterfalls that are located inside a gorge and can only be reached through a wide climb on the promontory which must be followed by an equally descent to see them from below

I photographed the waterfalls from the top of the promontory in front of me in order to portray as much as possible the flow of water from the source to the end

The same atmosphere of the low clouds can be seen in the upper part of the photo above the trees giving them a mysterious look

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I blended the shots using digital blending to create the image to work on, the final bled is not so much far from the original shot, I just take some point of the brighter exposure to give more lights around the rock and to increase the softness of the water

I increased the yellow colours applying a warmer filter to the highlights through luminosity masks, after this details was increased using TTS Pro details effects

I fixed contast and lights around the rocks, after this I pushed up some colours like the autumn colours and the end of the waterfall to better look the amazing blue colour of the water

I also created a small vignette to give more darkness of the area around the waterfall and concentrate the viewer’s eye on the waterfall

I hope you will find this usefull. I always love to ear this from you!
