The Circus Maximus needs no introduction, is an ancient Roman circus used for horse racing and other shows. Today is a giant lawn with the stands.Passing several times over there I realized that the area is quite dark, especially in the middle of the Circus Maxiumus of the lawn there is a very low brightness, so I decided to make an attempt to photograph the stars, trying to believe it is managed well. What you see the beyond the tree you can see the lights of the city and the ancient Roman ruins.

But as I took this photo?

Like all the shots I had to help myselfwith a double exposure and especially with a click using the technique Exposing to the right where it was however necessary a big job of brightness and colors.

Lens: Nikon 14-24mm f/4 (Shot at 15mm)

The church of St. Ignazio di Loyola in Campo Marzio, we are in the heart of Rome near the Via del Corso, where there is this beautiful church from the high ceiling and completely painted. The church of St. Ignazio di Loyola is among in the top ten most beautiful churches in Rome. The special feature of the church is that it has a fake dome, definitely well painted, but fake … in fact what the picture is perceived as a fresco black is nothing more than the fake reproduction of the effect of the dome from the inside, to overcome the lack of it that was never built.

Lens: Nikon 14-24mm f/2,8 (Shot at 14mm)

Fori Imperiali in Rome offers one of the most beautiful views of the Eternal City, especially if surrounded by a stars in the sky. Taking this photo was challenging more for the cold that did that day 😀 I made this picture from the terrace of the Campidoglio, taken 7 exposures for shooting Fori Imperiali in the lower scene. With the 7 exposures was necessary to capture the best dynamic range present in the landscape and also for the lights and colors.

What about stars?

For the stars I made a single more shot at 30′ and  ISO 6400 that  then I combined with the other 7. The rest was a job editing with layer masks the starry sky out with the rest of the shot. Particularly challenging was the color management, there was much in the dark blue in the photo, some of which I deleted the channel mixer to camera raw desaturating part of the blue to even the horizon line with that of the starry sky

TECHNICAL STUFF

Camera: Nikon D-800

Lens: Nikon 14-24mm f/2,8 (Shot at 14mm)

ISO: 100 at f/9

7 Exposures ( -3; -2; -1; 0; +1; +2; +3) + 1 Exposure for the sky at 30′

This is the inside of the Basilica of Santa Sabina on the Aventino hill. It is considered one of the most beautiful churches of Rome, located on the top of Aventino hill of Rome certainly more fascinating of all.  Read more...It ‘a very old church and not particularly worked, but to appreciate the perfection and precision of its forms. Taking this photo was not at all easy, first because I had absolutely exploit sunlight that seeped from the large windows to avoid the whole church too dark then, as always, I had to wait for the long lines of tourists all day and all hours are in this church. After a few minutes and a few tips I could work…
For the realization of the final image I use HDR 32-bit technique so then I merged it with part of the exposures made to take advantage of all the available dynamic range.

Lens: Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 (Shot at 14mm)
