I finally go back to do some excursions in search of interesting points to photograph and I recently discovered this small waterfall that is located in a place not far from Rome

The small waterfall is located at the end of a stone building consisting of a series of ponds which in turn flow into other smaller waterfalls. The scenery surrounding this place is full of nature, a dense vegetation let a magnificent light filter over it

I take a bracketed shot series here, but I managed the shots without bringing too much hihger the exposure in oder to give to the viewer the sense of lights and shadows was here

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I take 5 bracketed shots here but I blended only few exposures using TTS Pro, in particular I mainly managed the image using the darker exposures

After this I increased the yellow light coming from the sky with a warm filter applied to luminosity masks, after this I increased details selectively excluding foliage and water

I launched a orton effect as I usually do in all my pictures and I increased the color vibrance to incrase the yellow light in the sky and the beautiful green of the leafs

As final step I darkened the image a little bit to give more the sense of darkness and leave some foreground part to the viewer’s imagination

I hope you will find this usefull! I’m happy to ear this from you!

Trevi

In these days I have had the lucky opportunity to photograph the Trevi’s Fountain without all those thousands of tourists who are perennially around the square

For those who have never been here, to give you an idea of the amount of people just think that as soon as you enter the fountain square you must start making your way through the crowd… here every semi-panoramic photo of the fountain is impossible throughout all the day. Only in the very early morning is there any chance of succeeding and it is not even so obvious

In these days without tourists in Rome everything is easier and in the early morning the square is completely deserted, only the wonderful sound of water is heard and the magical atmosphere of the fountain attracts to you

Nevertheless to give an image of the Trevi’s Fountain that enhances the light of the sky I chose a vertical shot also to give greater dynamism to the scene, I took many photos here also horizontally but in my opinion this view includes many essential elements of the fountain having something different from the classic postcards of Trevi

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I blended all the exposure using TTS Pro and with the use of luminosity masks I lightened the sky and shadows. I added details selectively excluding the water of the fountain and the sky clouds

I increased the color vibrance with the filter inside my free panel here and I give a warm look in the highlights and shadows using a warm filter. With the help of dodge and burn I pushed up the light in the main spots of the shot

I correct the perspective of the shot that had a strong wide angle perspective and as final touch, I added a small dark vignette around the photo to give more attention to the viewer to the fountain and the sky lights

I really hope you will find this usefull! I like to ear this from you!

This image comes from a freehand single shot during my last excursion along the dolomites. It is beautiful to see how the light filters through the mountains, leaving behind you a glimpse of a blue sky veiled with rays of yellow lights

Although from a first glance the forest and the mountains may seem on the same level they are actually at two completely different depths and during my editing with Photoshop I tried to increase these visual differences by increasing the contrasts and adjusting the exposures in this sense

I tried to let the viewer focus his attention on the scenery at the bottom but without decreasing the importance of what constitutes the forest at the foot of the mountain

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

As said at the beginning of this post this is a single shot, so for this photo I did not do digital blending but I only used the luminosity masks to correct lights, contrast and colors

I increased the light effect coming through the sky with dodge and burn and I launched orton effect as I usually do in every my lanscape. After a small push up of yellows tones, I decreased the blacks and the shadows in order to give more prominence to the mountain

With the use of clone stamp tool, I removed some bushes on the bottom of the picture that moves attention away and I manually create a vignette using the glow tool you can find insid my TTS Pro panel

I increased the colors increasing vibrance and a small decrease of expoure as last touch

I hope you will find this usefull! I’m happy to ear this from you!

Infusion of Light

Here we are still in my location of the last posts, this time with a vertical shot, in this photo I captured the icy foreground on this beautiful lake. I love the vertical angle precisely because of the perspectives that the light can give to the viewer

In my post Afterlight I told you about the light that was present in this location and the lighting that filtered through the mountains, in that circumstance I was able to capture a beautiful moment of light that hit the lake giving magnificent golden reflections

Here instead I tried to shoot a different scene more focused on perspectives and depth. I love this mountain scenery, the ice, the colors of the sky and those of the ice. I can’t wait to leave again for new winter destinations soon, I will update you on the subject as always

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

For this image I used the focus stacking technique, I blended the exposure with foreground in focus than the other exposure series with the mountain both using TTS Pro with my filters, after this I blended the shots for focus stacking

I increased details using my panel, I increased the level of yellow tones to give more light at the sunset applying a warming filter to luminosity masks.

Subsequently I added two types of orton effect: the first was the classic orton effect decreased to the opacity to 15% and the second was the orton effect dark, that emphatize the dark tones of the image… you can fin both filters inside my panel

I fixed the contrast and lights using luminosity masks, and helping myself with a brush in a new layer I lightened some dark areas of the picture and given more light to the highlights and clouds

As last touch I created a soft vignette to give more attention to the ice subject on the foreground

I hope you will find this informations usefull! I love to ear feedback from you!

When I took this photo I was in a special place, a very special place that I found with after a bit of research on google earth in order to find waterfalls along my South Korea itinerary

This is precisely the first of my in trip researches resuls, reaching it was not easy but it was satisfying, together with this waterfall in the next post I will also show you another waterfall that is absolutely unique

However the light coming from the top of the waterfall was lovely, photographing it and capturing that light was my main goal since I reached the location

Behind me there were some tourists who take selfies in every way possibles 🙂 A very strange thing, throughout the entire journey in South Korea I didn’t see half photographer or landscape photographer who had a tripod or a DSRL, never happened before in all of life

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I captured different shots in order to capture the best dynamic range, I blended 3 of them to obtain a final frame with the right light around the water and over the trees

I blended the shots using TTS Pro and luminosity masks to fix the lights around the rocks after the blend. Always with the use of my panel I increased the yellow colours of highlights and shadows using the warm colour filter

With the glow tool I incrased some lights over the main light spot and over the leafs on the trees, I decreased the luminosity in order to generate a more dark look and I applied a soft orton effect to emphatize this

I increased the vibrance of the colours around +10 using hue/saturation given more contrast using curves adjustment layer applied to luminosity masks

I hope you will find this usefull. I like to ear this from you!

Hands Lifted

Waiting for my next trip I spend a day last week in the Tuscia region. It was a name given to the old region of Etruria now named conventionally has the name of the region around Viterbo

Here there is a beautiful beech forest, located on Monte Cimino. The beech forest and is a pleasant walk (especially the summer) to go through these beautiful centenary trees, very suggestive the lights that filter through the branches during the morning

I found these two trees that they had a shape almost representing hands towards the sky, where a strong morning light filtered creates beautiful plays of light

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I edited the single shot with luminosity masks, used to adjust contrast lights and darkness, no blend here was possible because I was freehand and the wind moved the leaves

I increased details using TTS PRO ,created two warm filters (highlights and shadows) applied to luminosity masks to give more yellows tones to trees and leaves

I launched an orton effect to give more sens of glow in the frame, plus to intensity the light I used the glow tool with a brush around the main lights area

With the use of dodge and burn I reduced some strong lights around the trees and as final step I added a vignette to give more prominence to the light coming to the sky I darkened some rocks with too much lights on them, I adjusted contrast using it applied to luminosity masks

I hope you will find this usefull. I’m always happy to ear this from you!

The Secret Path

This is one of my favourite photo spot in Japan, the path that leads to the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one the most important spot in the province of Kyoto. Throughout the journey you will pass under these torii in a long uphill path to the sanctuary located at the base of a mountain also called Inari, which is 233 meters above sea level and which includes several paths to other minor

It’s a beautiful place as well as full of meaning, on the early morning there was a cool gentle breeze accompanied by a soft rain with a tranquil silence. The Fushimi Inari shrine is also one of the most photographed spots in Japan like bamboo grove and therefore if you want to find these torii free from tourists of all kinds, even here it is necessary to get up early in the morning 🙂

I took many shots here at this spot, I also had time to make some creative and slightly different shots that I will publish with a second post about Fushimi Inari Temple

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I take 5 bracketed exposures for this that I blended using TTS PRO, until to reach a final image. The first successive step was to fix the lights around the torii, so I used dodge and burn applied to luminosity masks to darken some extra light areas and give more energy to the shadows. I added some yellow feel at the image using a warm filter applied to luminosity masks to apply the effect only to the highlights

I tried to keep low the lighting level of the photo, so I darkened the exposure by a few points and I raised the level of the highlights to maintain the light between the torii intact. I recovered the shadows in the foreground and I added sharpen to keep the viewer’s view as long as possible

Since I liked the atmosphere of contrast with the light that filters from the torii I tried to intensify it with a vignette giving more light in the central part of the photo, so in addition to darken the rest I further intensified the light source

I always hope you will find this usefull. Love to ear this from you!

Towards the Sky

Another image from the Bamboo forest of Arashiyama, in my previous post I have spoken extensively about this forest, which is an unmissable destination for those who go to Japan, but I also talked about how difficult it is to take pictures inside it to stay quiet away from tourists… Well, the photo in question instead does not consider all this 😀

In fact in this incredible location just look up at the sky in some points of the forest to find shows of trees that are intertwined upwards, leaving just some glimmers in the light to enter and it is precisely these glimmers of light to create the magical atmosphere that reigns in the Bamboo forest of Arashiyama

I love the play of light that is created between the trunks of the bamboo, especially those that have formed on the left, illuminating some parts of the forest that are in the shadow areas. I made this shot handheld, without a tripod although in fact I used bracketing as I always do for habit at the end but I have only used one exposure of these, the reason? the wind and the leaves that moved made impossible any sort of alignment between the trees and the image will result blurry if I use digital blending

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

As anticipated a moment ago this is a single shot, so I exploited the potential of luminosity masks to raise and lower the lights and shadows of the image. Although I intervened several times on the central light coming from the opening between the trees, I have also chosen to leave the light source strong, to give greater contrast to the image but also to increase the sense of illumination.

I increased details using my panel placing the effect with 50% opacity and than I launched the orton effect decreasing the opacity to 10%. After increasing the yellow tones of the image with two warm filters applied to highlights and shadows, with dodge and burn I made some adjustments on the top leaves and on the dark tree on the right

I tried as much as possible to keep an editing similar to the one in my previous photo since the same location I like the idea of having results in terms of color and lighting similar, although the subject and lighting in this case is completely different. For this reason also this time I used Color Efef Pro with Sunlight filter and reducing opacity to 35%, to increase the glow coming from the main light

Last passage was to create a dark vignette but this time without increasing the light in the center part of the frame, the light would have been really too much this time 🙂

As always I hope you will find this usefull. Love to ear this from you!

I absolutely love to photograph the night sky and every summer I try to find the right time to dedicate to the milky way and night shots. What you see is a shot taken in Abruzzo, an Italian region where nature is the main element and for me it is one of the main spots for landscapes and the night shots

This area is located in an ancient, uninhabited medieval village, very suggestive but above all ideal for taking shots and the milky way. At regard if you have not yet read it I recommend this article where I wrote how to plan and shot the milky way where you can find usefull information about the dark skies and how to take this kind of shots

This image is the result of a photomerge. I took a series of shots where I went to compose the frame by taking the whole milky way moving to the shots gradually down to including more foreground, I inserted the subject later with a mask from one shot taken separately to avoid the light disturb the visibility of the milky way

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

Before open the images in Photoshop I make some edits on camera raw, especially for the colors and the lights, I saved the results and I opened the images as photomerge that composed my based frame, I adjusted the frame using the free transform tool, than I started using camera raw again with TTS PRO where I made the major adjustments for the contrast, highlighs, white and black points for the milky way

Using curves I increased the lights on the foreground helping myself with a brush. With dodge and burn I fixed the lights over the underexposed areas and I added more colors in the sky and on the ruins. Always using my panel I applied the warm highlights fiter that increased the yellow part of the highlights, than I decreased the opacity to 10% to softener the effect

Also made some adjustments at the colors where I fixed the main chromatic tone of the sky. With the clone stamp tool I removed some unwanted spots and some light pollution coming from the nearest city. As last touch I added a soft orton effect to make all more dreamy

You can find all the effects mentioned above in my custom panel TTS PRO, a very useful tool for any type of editing that I recommend to download to speed up and improve your workflow. I also want to recommend to subscribe to my newsletter to have news and updates from me and to receive a welcome gift as well as monthly tutorials about travel and landscape photography

I hope you will find this informations usefull. I Love to ear this from you!
