The plain of Campo Imperatore on a quiet Sunday in December. I took this picture a few minutes before sunset in a small lake near the main road. That day I was going to make some shots to the largest and Lake Pietranzoni but I found all the roads closed due to snow and so I had to come back and take some shots here. I shot using  focus stacking between the foreground bush and the tip of Corno Grande of Gran Sasso basically doing three bracketed exposure shots by series

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I stack the images in three different pictures than I blended the different exposures togheder using luminosity masks. I increased contrast using curves applied to midtones and I raised up contrast again using midtones minus darks to avoid too much darken parts around the foreground. With the help of my panel, I launched details and sharpen, then I used dodge and burn to refine lights and darks around the bush

I make some color correction using camera raw and I decreased the blue on the top of the frame with hue/saturation. As final touch I added a vignette to the image increasing a little bit more contrast.  I hope you find this informations useful, if you have any suggestions write to me, I love always hear you

Lake Carezza near Bolzano was a pleasant surprise that I met along my way. It is a small alpine lake located in the Val d’Ega, about 25 km from Bolzano. It is nestled between thick forests of trees and is located under the massive of Latemar, which is reflected in its crystal clear water. Lake Carezza is known for its beautiful colors and why people who lives in this place call it the “rainbow lake”

The entire circumference of the lake is surrounded by a fence, and the lake is located a few meters below this. It ‘a beautiful lake to admire but very difficult to photograph, in fact any shot does not do it justice. During my shots I have sought to emphasize the reflections that were in the water and the massive Latemar which stood in the background, but it took me long to find an interesting spot from where shoot 🙂

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

As I said in my previous post, I was with a D90, so I could not take more than 3 bracketed shots, so I chose to take a series (-1, 0 + 1) and (-2, 0, +2) separate. With Photoshop  I have used the set (-1, 0 + 1) and +2  exposure from the other set, cause the photo was very dark view of the shortage of light.

I blended all exposures with the luminosity masks, then I made some color correction on the green and the yellow. I used dodge and burn to lighten the darker parts of the trees and increase highlights on the mountain. With midtones masks I set contrasts on the frame and with Fast Panel I increased details over the picture, also applied orton effect to darken a bit and create a glow effect. As final I set contrast, shadows, and highlights again to balance the image

Lake Landro with its typical reflections of the mount cristallo, this location is truly exceptional. I didn’t know this lake before, I saw this place passing by car and I stopped and go out to take some shots of this place, it’s a beautiful place perfect for photography. The lake was slightly dry but I tried to position myself in front of the main reflection, I take 3 exposures trying to emphasize the foreground and its reflections. Unfortunately in this trip I did not have my Nikon D800 cause the broke of diaphragms level, I shoot this picture and the the other of the following post with a Nikon D90 with fortunately has been quite good 🙂

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

The picture had a so natural and beautiful light that it no need many edits, I only make Photoshop edits to brighten highlighs and enhance the contrast. I started merging the exposures with luminosity masks, made some color corrections and add contrast using midtones. With the help of lights masks I increased highlighs and with darks lightened the main part of the mountains.

I added some adjustments with dodge and burn, added orton effect and details using TTS Fast Panel. As final intervention I added more contrast and a small vigneting to emphatize the central part of the frame and darken the borders.

Arsié Mirror

During my weekend in northern Italy, I often do some little excursion outside the city to go to take some photos in beautiful places offering the region of Veneto. The last time I decided to make this short trip to the Lake of Corlo (commonly called Lake Arsié). It is an artificial lake that is located near Belluno city. After a little tour scoutingI started taking photos near this small quay, where the stairs seemed to go down into the clouds so strong was the reflection of water.

I took this picture a few hours before sunset, because in my opinion the best light was right at that moment, in fact, though the high reflections of the clouds and the mountains to the side in the lake Arsié was absolutely spectacular. I took several photos in this location and went back on this quayside when the sunset started and I did not find the same light, because the sun will hide on the sides of the hills. Speaking about photoshop in this picture of Lake Arsié I try to maintain the natural look of the place, I have only exalted more contrasts and highlights, I also stepped details and given a dreamy effect using any of my actions for Orton Effect

The Heaven Mirror

Hello guys, first of all happy new year and lucky 2016 to everyone!! I decided to start this year with a series of shots taken at Gran Sasso during last autumn. It ‘a series of spectacular shots of all the magnificent nature that you can find those heights, including stars. I decided to start in chronological order from the first photo taken during sunset on the lake overlooking the tip of the big horn of Gran Sasso, a sight to leave speechless by the beauty, immersed in nature for hours it was also fun to see the wild horses and the ox that occasionally approached the lake to drink.

I made dozens of shots of this part, from the golden hour to finally get virtually the blue hour. The photographs taken during the golden hour were definitely the most fascinating in terms of colors, but the bright light of this hour restrained me to choose these shots, while the exposures taken during the blue hour were much more attractive but less marked with reflections. So I decided to  choose a series of exposures taken in the mid point of time, as lights and reflections that were the right measure.

To make the shot more interesting I chose to portray most foreground, rather than making an image somewhere between water and sky. This difference needed careful focus of rocks below than the horizon. For this reason I made a focus stacking on the rocks on the bottom and then toward the horizon to better frame the mountains and have an image that was both elements in focus. Until the latest shots, the top of the mountain was covered by clouds, only in the late clouds go away from Corno Grande. For this reason I show the mountain “discovery” from the clouds with a exposure that I had made a few minutes later, masking it with those previously results obtained from focus stacking

The Ghost Lake

Giuseppe Sapori - The Ghost Lake

At the end of this summer I took a few days to relax around area of my city, not very far from home. And so that I was able to return to visit a lake that had fascinated me but I had not got to explore and photograph carefully. The lake in question is Lake Canterno and is located near Fiuggi-Anagni; it is discovered almost by chance, it looks from the vegetation and trees, is big enough but what is most striking is the atmosphere of melancholy and yearning and the particular vegetation that grows under water. Only after a properly documentation I discovered that this lake is named the Ghost Lake because in the past with irregular intervals, the lake was dried out part or in whole, to reappear, often suddenly, in its breadth.

The name of Ghost lake is not only anchored to the past, Canterno is still subject to sudden changes in water level, also seen in a few years. Very impressive witness of these changes is the lone tree stands of water in the picture. That day, I arrived at the lake one hour before sunset, I had time to walk around the neighborhood. The whole area is quite wild and totally lack of facilities to the people, it is not a tourist place nevertheless I met someone walking in the lake area. After choosing the composition which, in my opinion the most representative of the lake, I realized this image with 5 exposures that I merged manually using Luminance Masks in Photoshop.
The Lake of Canterno particularly impressed me, for its calm, melancholy and beauty, the fact that it is a place so little beaten by tourists makes me appreciate even more, I’d like go back again hope early.

Mooring before the evening

Still Malcesine… still the lake, still Garda. As you can imagine in the day in this town, I really made a lot of picutres, also helped by overcast skies, with cloudy and foggy. No, it is not the weather forecast… but the weather changed so suddenly with the sky and all the colors that surround the lake. This is one of the many marinas that find space in the Venetian resort, next to these piers a tiny quay to moor fishing boats. This is a single shot, I wanted to take the seagull flying at the top to give a more complete photographic composition. Edited entirely with camera raw I finally stepped colors using the Lab Coloring technique.

Malcesine: Although this frame is not the point at the top to take pictures of the village, the cliff is on the right is very suggestive and cozy, also the beautiful glow that could be seen at the bottom of the mountains created a strange and particular magic in the picture. I took this picture from a balcony that was precisely on the road that leads up to the castle, are only 3 exposures taken by placing the camera on the railing of this balcony.

I took this picture while I was in Malcesine on Lake Garda, the largest lake and most important in Italy. I was on the platform of Malcesine that served as a mooring for boats when I noticed this on the horizon  a beautiful glow of light through the clouds. The pole and the sail that were in the area below the photo that impressed me and I wanted to portray it completed the composition with the movement he served. I recommend everyone to visit Lake Garda of northern Italy because it ‘s really worth. This shot is a 5 shot take handheld, but i use only 3 of this exposures merging the interested elements using the luminance masks, as you can imagine I have also intensified the colors , because the sky had a  little purplish hue, I proceeded to pull higher with Camera Raw

This is the river that flows into the Bohinj lake, subject of my pictures in my previous post. The bridge you see, is the passage that leads to the pleasant village of Ribcev Laz with Stara Fuzina, as you can see the whole area is surrounded by inspiring nature reserve.
