I shot for three consecutive days in this location in search of the best clouds and the most interesting colors, at the end I preferred for this image in focus stacking with this rock in the foreground using two different focuses between foreground and the mountain. I used a nd filter with -6 stops to make this, I love the submerged part of the rock blurred by the long exposure of the water

This area is one of my favorite locations to photograph the sea. I’m talking about Cilento area in the south of Italy. I love the rocky beaches with the mountain in the background typical of this area. The sunsets here are always very special and full of beautiful colors, every year I try to spend a few days here taking these colorful seascapes

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I captured this with 5 brackedet shots that I merged using TTS Pro with digital blending creating 2 different shots that I blended with focus stacking. With luminosity masks I fixed the highlights in the sky and I lightened the darker parts of the rocks

After increasing the color vibrances, I used dodge and burn to fix some darker areas around the rocks and darkened the general luminosity of the picture using a vignette

I increased the contrast applying luminosity masks to curves adjustment layer, after a general layer fixes a gived a soft orton effect to create a soft glow effect

I hope you will find this usefull! I love to ear that from you!

A Evening by the Sea

Tags :

Also this year I decided to take a tour of the Amalfi coast, it is one of my favorite places to spend a few days capturing great landscapes, visiting important UNESCO sites and eating very very well šŸ™‚

This photo represents a spot that I really like and that every time I come to these places I take it Every time I find something different and it’s never the same, from the sky to the vegetation, to the colors of the seaā€¦ I love it!

This time I took the shot with a long exposure, since the area is always very windy I took a few minutes before the precaution of saving the leaves from the wind

The moment of the shot is the one that anticipates the nautical twilight so the moment immediately before when the sky begins to pull out the blue

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

This time no digital blending was necessary, so I used the exposure I captured for the leaf to manually mask them with the main shot

I fixed lights, contrasts and details using TTS ProĀ effects, than I fixed color cast and created a soft warm atmosphere using a warming filter

I increased the vibrance to have more vibrant colours and with dodge and burn I fixed some darker areas inside the caves of the coast. As usual I also used a soft orton effect orton effect to create a more soft and dreamy effect

I reduced the highlights and I created a strong vignette to increase the dark mood of the scene and give more prominence to the central scene

Last step was to increase the sharpness on the edges and in particular on the mountain to increase the viewer sense of detail

I hope you will find this usefull. I love to ear this from you!

Coast to Coast

With this post I connect last week image, Nightlight to show you another picture from the beautiful Amalfi coast, in particular this was taken the following day on the road that leads Ā Amalfi to Atrani town. The colors and the landscape that you can admire in this spot is very interesting and I never lose the opportunity to take this picture every time I’m here, the most attentive of you will in fact know that I took the same picture in the past šŸ™‚

Even here the road certainly does not give easy moments to take pictures, being a very tight road you must always pay attention to cars moving on the road (especially buses). Ā Is a very nice place but not really quiet to stand in the middle of the road with the tripod. Fortunately, the road is always very busy and cars are often in traffic, this not allows to the cars to go faster

In this Amalfi spot I captured several long exposures, I wanted to have the effect of movement of the sky and the sea, I did some test shots before without filter to set the values and to save the leaves in the lower left corner, the strong wind of this spotĀ moved them all the time and I wanted to make sure I could intervene later

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I blended the long exposure with the normal exposure to save the leafs on the left. The windĀ moved the leaves and in the long exposure them results blurry, with this method I have limited the damages, not easy to edit because on the back there was the smooth sea but I managed something. Anyway I used luminosity masks to fix the lights and darks, I reduce the strong highlights on the back of the mountain and I pushed up the darkness of the foreground rocks

I incrased contrasts and I used dodge and burn to darken the middle rock and to lighten the sea breaking on the coast. WithĀ TTS Fast PanelĀ I launched high details and orton effect to smooth the effect and to create a soft dreamy look. To begin edit the colors I started fixing color castĀ reducing the opacity on the result, than I increased the yellow colors using this techniques, reducing again the highlights in the sky. Latest passages was to darken a bit the whole frame and add a small purple look using camera raw

I always hope you will find this usefull. I love to ear this from you!

The Last Light

The beachĀ of Maiori during sunset, I took this pictureĀ in the few moments of light available before the sundown, it was beginning to be dark when I found a small pier lookingĀ out to sea, there was only a fisherman just ahead. I placed a few meters before him shooting towards the Gulf of Amalfi, the sea was very much moved and several times I had to clean the lens from a few sketches that even at a distance came on my lens.

However not being the owner of an ND filter I took this photo only using a slower shutter speed and a good exposure compensation, I have to say that I am very satisfied of the final results but all the credits go toĀ the sunsetĀ cause I was helped by the little lights remainings which allowed me the fog effect in the water. With Photoshop I tried to step up the contrasts, the details on the rocks and further blur to the water, specially in the central part of the image

Sea outpost

What you see is the Norman tower of Maiori, once of the ancientĀ outpost of the place, a Ā tower of excellence to scan the sea in an attempt to defend itself from invasion of the Saracens. Today the tower is a luxury restaurant with magnificent views of the Gulf of Campania and the Amalfi coast. I took this picture from the road and a free hand since the road was very narrow, and the stand I could not have a good view of the cliff, since you had to lean a little. In addition the car runningĀ faster on my left making everything much more difficult šŸ™‚

However, it is a freehand picture made with 3 exposures, entirely worked with Luminance Masks, my actions and Photoshop Lab Coloring, for all of this you can find more in the tutorial section

Coastal Sunset II

If you liked my previous post, surely you appreciate this too, because this is the same location butĀ taken from a closer position… and with less light course šŸ™‚

After taking all the pictures on the cliff for the view from the top (I was precisely halfway between Amalfi and Atrani) I started to descend the cliff to direct me back to Amalfi to catch the last but to go home.Ā A notice:Ā My stay was in Maiori, a town not far from there, because Amalfi city is really very expensive

Anyway this is the view that welcomes the entrance of the city. I stopped on this place to take some shoots here, it was starting to get dark, the lights of the village were on and I did not want to miss a lighted shooting Amalfi in a late blue hour with citylights
