Chasing Sunlight

Chasing Sunlight

Hi guys, also this week here you are another sunrise shot from Rome for this photo I chose another spot where you can admire the roman sunrise in all its beauty

The view of the roman forum is truly spectacular, I went here just before the sun started to glimpse the horizon composing the shot in a way that so that I could have a general overview of the roman forum with the Coliseum on the right

I captured some series of bracketing shots, also including some shots holding my finger in front of the sunlight, in order to have some shots without the lens flare for the blend with other photos, in this way I removed all the lens flare from the final image

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I blended all the exposures using TTS Pro, I decreased the shadows and increased the highlights to push up the sunrise lights than, with the use of luminosity masks, I give more contast to the image.

After adding a warm filter to give a more yellow tone to the image, I added a orton effect to increase the dreamy look feel of the sunlight. With the use of dodge and burn I fixed some light and shadows spot around the picture and for the last I used a dark vignette around the picture

I hope you will find this usefull! I’m happy to ear this from you!

The Last Afterglow

Tags :

Waiting for the possibility of being able to travel again through the Italian regions and I hope soon also in the rest of the world, I am dedicating myself to photographing my city in the early morning

The moment is certainly the right one because, as I wrote in previous posts, waking up early in the morning it is easy to find points of interest in the city that are usually very crowded and completely with no one

Here we are in the famous Piazza di Spagna, I wanted to give a perspective of the square starting from the famous “barcaccia” to portray the perspective of the Spanish steps with the church at the bottom, with a fantastic morning afterglow behind it

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I captured a bracketing series of 5 exposures to have all the dynamic range avaiable to blend the exposure with TTS Pro, after this I fixed the highlights using luminosity masks and contrast with midtones applied to curves adjustment layer

I increased the color vibrance and I added a warm filter to increase the yellow look of the sky, I corrected the perspective and I remove some spots of ghost birds flying into the sky

With dodge and burn tool I fixed all lights around the square, increasing the illumination over the light direction, I also increased the glow behind the church. I darkened the exposure just a bit and sharpened the details, as final steps I fixed contrast and lights with levels adjustment layer

I really hope you will find this usefull! Love to ear this from you!

Every time I go to Milan I always take photos in the new area of Porta Nuova it’s a brand new quarter, full of skyscrapers and modern facilities, this area is one of my favorite photographic locations in Milan

Among the various spots that I have had the opportunity to photograph there is also this that you see in the picture, an installation with many trumpets that leads the parking with the upper side, by speaking in one of this trumpets the voice and the sound propagate along the whole length and it is possible to communicate between one floor and the other

This is a shot that I have done at other times but this time I decided to photograph directly from the parking lot to resume the entire length of the installation and take advantage of all the lights

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I take exposures for this, I blended the shots using TTS PRO to decrease the parking lights. I increased details and using dodge and burn I fixed the lights too much overexposed

I added a small glow effect in the picture using a very soft orton effect and I increased blue luminosity to make better visible the sky. My latest touch was to add a small vignette to intensify the central part of the frame

You can find all this effect in my brand new panel TTS PRO, one click to lauch all this effect and to create beautiful images

I hope you will find this informations usefull. I Love to ear this from you!

The White Diamond

Tags :

I take this photo during the days I spent in Copenhagen, this is the famous black diamond structure adjacent to the royal library. As I say in my previous post  that the building takes the name of black diamond for the color of the exterior windows that are made of black granite of Zimbawe, inside this structure is completely white

Contrary to the original black name, I called this image white diamond because it represents the exactly opposite view of my previous post

This is the main entrance view from the top stairs I really liked the lighting that passed through the large window with the view of the houses of Christianshavn, the district starting from the other side of the river

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I made a blend with the shots I take, first things was to fix the lighting: using luminosity masks applied to curves I decrease the lights coming from the window and increase the darks. Always using luminosity masks applied to curves, I select midtones 4 decreased by darks 3 to fix and increase contrast avoiding darks

With dodge and burn I reduce lights around the staircase and on the top window, with orton effect I increased the glow effect of light, setting it with an opacity of 20%. I applied details and sharpen to have more details and I increased colors on the floor.

I increased contrast more than 1 time but nevertheless the look of the image was still flat, so I used the color lookup effects to launch some filters (3 in totals) reducing the opacity between 10 and 25%, this gave to the picture a more fade filtered look but also more aggressive contrasts, for more information about this method I wrote a tutorial some time ago on Camerapixo site

I hope you will find this usefull. I always love ear it from you!

I take this photo during the days I spent in Copenhagen, this is the famous black diamond structure adjacent to the royal library

The building takes the name of black diamond because of the color of the exterior windows that are made of black granite of Zimbawe, otherwise the interior of the atrium is completely white and in the middle of the building, a huge 8-storey atrium acts as entrance and skylight for the whole building, it is a beautiful modern building ideal for taking interiors shot

I took several pictures both in the background and in the various plans, which will be the source of my upcoming publications 🙂

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I made a fast blend between the darker and brighter exposure, saving the sky and recovering the highlights at the window, same highlights that I pushed up around the area of main light. with clone stamp tool I removed some ghost of people in the picture and with TTS Fast Panel I launched all the effect I used to edit this picture

I increased details, sharpen and vividness of colors, with dodge and burn I reduce lights around the staircase and on the top window, with orton effect I increased the glow effect of light, setting it with an opacity of 10%. I increased contrast using luminosity masks applied to curves tool. I added a slightly yellow color using a warm filter, as final touch I added a small vignette.

As always I hope you will find this usefull. I always love to ear that from you!

Taken at the Upper Barrakka Gardens, that together with Lower Barrakka Gardens, is one of the panoramic views of the city of La Valletta. This is the terrace area where on the left you admire the waterfront of the city on the left

The gardens were originally used to offer recreation to the knights of the Italian langue of the Order of Saint John, but were opened to the public following the end of the French Occupation of Malta

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I blend the images using luminosity masks and I added contrast and details using TTS Fast Panel

I made some colors adjustments increasing yellows in the highlights and with dodge and burn I fixed some darks area under the arches. I added a small orton effect to the frame and I added a vignette to increase the dark atmoshpere of the picture

I hope you will find this few lines usefull, feel free to write to me your feedback is always welcome!

Here we are in  Gae Aulenti square in Milan as part of Porta Nuova neighborhood few minutes walking distance from “Garibaldi Station”. This brand new and equally beautiful neighborhood has become one of the main points of meeting in Milan, then in addition to being a new, modern architecturally  is also full of people at all hours of the day. For those who come to Milan I recommend everyone a visit to Gae Aulenti area of the city you will love it!

But what about the shoot?, I took this picture from  composition of two shots. I took first the part at the top with a view of the Unicredit tower, then a lower shooting where there are (at least partially) the “trumpets” a modern sculture inside there

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I selected two shots of the square that I merged using “photomerge” funcion inside Photoshop to create a unique image. As first thing I align the image using ruler tool, and it was not so easy in this image 🙂 Using luminosity masks I made some adjustments to lights and darks, I also increase yellows by the door outside.

Used dodge and burn around the darker part of the frame and i lightened the border of the hole. With TTS Fast Panel I increased details and sharpness. After a contrast fix using luminosity masks, i fixed some light adjustment using levels and that’s it!

I hope you will find this informations usefull, if you have any tips or question about it write to me. I’m always happy to hear it on you!

The Abbey of San Galgano is a cistercian abbey, located to thirty kilometers from Siena, in the city of Chiusdino. The site consists in a hermitage (Montesiepi Rotonda) and from the great abbey, now completely ruined and reduced to only walls.

Nevertheless the abbey of St. Galgano is not left in total decay, this abbey is the destination  of tourist flow and the place is maintained by the confraternity who is dealing. To make this shot I made 7 brackets exposures using a ND64 filter to remove people moving in the church

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I make a digital blending between the images discarding only a couple of too light frames, using luminosity masks, I adjusted the highlights and darks, some points of the abbey were very dark so with my panel I launched dodge and burn to lighten or darken the image at the points that I wanted

After adding a little ‘to contrast with the midtones masks, I stepped details and sharpen in the frame. As the last adjustments I set the color cast lowering some blue saturation in the clouds.  I hope you find this information useful, if you have any suggestions write to me, I love always hear you

Flying over the Roofs

Giuseppe Sapori - Flying over roofs

Views of Siena from the roofs, I took this shot during a visit on t the so-called facciatone, very large archway present to the left of the cathedral in Siena. The view of the city from here  is very interesting and certainly one of the best things to do in Siena. The only limit, is that the rooftop of facciatone is within a guided tour so you can not stay on top for more than 15 minutes. I took this picture with 3 handheld bracketed exposures  since was not allowed to use tripod

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

The first thing was to align the three exposures that I blended together using luminosity masks. Always using luminosity masks, I set the shadows areas and lights one, with hue / saturation I desaturated the blue intensity of the sky. I launched dodge and burn to better adjust the exposure along the cathedral and the sky and with Fast Panel I launched high details and sharpen effect to have a great detail exalt in the frame. As the final touch i adjust the contrast in the image.

It ‘was a quick and easy editing, I did not want to touch the colors that were was very natural. I hope you find this information useful, if you have any tips or comments, write it as well. I love to hear it from you:)

The Path of Glory

St. Angelo bridge shot taken from the banks of the Tevere river, this is a picture I took several times and is one spot that I like very much, in fact, this area is easy to find, a good point without the thousands of tourists who are in any other spot of Rome. This time I chose a time of golden hour on enough enlightened, I also benefited from good reflexes on the river and a shoal inside, rarely seen in the winter months. I would lower this to keep me with the shot but there were too many weeds at the base of the river, in fact some of them you can see the bottom 🙂

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I blended the shots togheder, discarding the most overexposed exposure. With luminosity masks, I make some adjustments to the frame adding more contrast with darks and midtones masks. Using Fast Panel I increased details, applied orton effect decreasing opacity around 8% and applying dodge and burn to lighten some parts of the bridge and darken the castle. With hue/saturation I adjust the yellows and make some color adjustments.

I also used camera raw to increase selectively clarity around bridge, reflection and shoal. As final I applied a small vignette selectively removing darks in the highlights as to increase darkness and contrasts only in the foreground, because otherwise, the sky would take a dark blue variant that would be surreal. I hope you find this information useful, are always welcome your opinions on how you’d worked this photo
