Piazza Grande in Montepulciano, is the main square that is in this city and is reached after a uphill way in the upper part of Montepulciano. This town is rich in art and history, and as well as seeing all the places shown in the twilight saga, you’ll come across plenty of interesting sights in this beautiful, cobblestoned town. Do not miss the Piazza Grande with its town hall and tower, seen in the exciting scene where Bella saves Edward

I used my ND filters to remove all the people who was in the square of Montepulciano, since they were a small center to say the truth were not so many people but it was a lot easier removing them using filters. I made several shots from the sunset lights to the evening, to keep the shots at various times of the day

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I selected some of the best shots taken and I blended them with luminosity masks. With the result, I choice some other earlier hour shot to remove the stronger light coming from the church simply using a layer mask. I made some color adjust reducing the violet strong color of blue hour and I aligned the square fixing proportions and angles

I launched high details and sharpen with my panel and I created some light in the foreground using dodge and burn. After increasing contrast and light using levels, I made the final touch with darken lighten center effect of color efex  pro filter

I hope you will find this usefull, I’m always happy to ear it from you!

The heart of Siena in a photo, the beautiful cathedral in middle of the square town e in a late December afternoon. I made this photo from a series of shots, from a minimum of 5 seconds to a maximum of 30 using a filter nd64 -6 stop. Try to imagine how many people, tourists and some vehicles was in the square at five of afternoon, i tried to “clean all” using a long exposure with the filter, specifically I use Haida filter and holder on my Nikon 14-24, I use Haida filters  for about 2 months and so far have always behaved very well 🙂

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I blended the exposures taken together using luminosity masks, I had the shots taken at different times of the evening, I blended  2 shots  between best sky and less people/more light trails available in one final frame. With TTS Fast Panel I used dodge and burn to lighten some dark parts of the foreground and darken some too light part of the cathedral

With the transform command I repositioned the perspective of the photo correcting some falling lines, especially among the buildings around the basilica. I used luminosity masks to correct lights and highlights behind the cathedral and to lighten the foreground that was very dark, with my panel I launched details and sharpen. At the end I increased contrast using curves exalting the middle light

We in Gae Aulenti square in Milan, the central square of the new district of Porta Nuova, a short walk from the location of my last post. Gae Aulenti Square it’s a business center in Milan where all the newer buildings are overlooking the center of this square where are located a particular fountain and a modern and feature installation “trombe” … megaphones are installed on more levels between the square and the area below, speaking in trumpet a voice level is propagated on the other place, it is an attraction that draws tourists but especially curious and childrens. Right on top of this installation, there is this aperture to the sky watching one of the square skyscrapers, an image that give free space to symmetry and imagination of the architecture of Gae Aulenti square

A detail below the columns of the beautiful Plaza de España in Seville. I can say without exageration that this is one of the most beautiful squares I’ve ever seen in my life. Plaza de España is a square full of beautiful and semicircular building with symmetrical construction. Inside the square there is a semicircular waterway where you can rent boats to sightseeing the square by the river. During my visit in Plaza de España it was hit by a warm, bright sun that brought that day the temperature to 25 degrees in the middle of December 🙂
I realized 3 bracketed shots, I used all three shots to take with the luminance masks the desired brightness in the most contrasting areas of the colonnade. I deleted some tourists passing in the distance and I emphasized the effect of sunlight through the columns of the square.

Piazza Garibaldi

Even this square is located in Loreto, the name Piazza Garibaldi is like the statue of our italian hero that is represented. This square is small and compact but contains within it an incredible charm of symmetry and proportions that struck me positively. To accomplish this photo I captured 5 exposures, the idea was to start from exposure darker and go off to lighten the photo with other exposures during editing using the luminance masks. This fact was the one that I made but we have to add that the day was beautiful that day, the sky was still dark though cloudless, so I took the liberty of adding a sky more dramatic and more dynamic that would give more movement to the photo, what do you think? : D

The Square of Heaven

This is Loreto city – near Ancona in the east side of Italy. In Loreto the heart of the city  is here, where is the Sanctuary with the famous Holy House inside and the Black Lady. At the side of the Sanctuary the art gallery of Loreto wich contains other works and treasures related to the Holy House. Loreto is a very small town and everything seems to revolve around this square and this impressive and beautiful Sanctuary, so it is very difficult to find the square clear of people and tourists. I must admit I was very lucky in this case, in the evening did two drops of rain, and many people have sought shelter from the square, luckily I was in the neighborhood and managed to photograph the in all its glory without people in the scene. All you see  in this picture is the magic of the place, definitely a place of worship but also very charming from the architectural point of view.

In the next post will be the pictures of the interior, stay connected 😀

Campidoglio Square in Rome during the blue hour. I have to wait around an hour to let people leave the square. Nevertheless there was still some people passing
throw my camera, so i mask them using 2 different exposures, and create a HDR with the other three images.
