I’ve always loved photographing lighthouses. Wherever they are, always are a great photographic spot. When I decided to go to Santander this was one of my selected location in the area and I absolutely did not disappoint my expectations, the Cabo Mayor lighthouse is one of the most beautiful and suggestive I have ever seen. Located at the end of a large city park, the scenery that you can admire from here is the true idea of the power of the sea

To take the shot of Cabo Mayor lighthouse used  my nd64 filter, i also did the tests with nd1000 but the light was too poor to get the best results. Using the nd64 (-6 stops) filter I could keep exposure time under 30 seconds and use bracketing shots to allow easier digital blending of images. Another thing why I avoided too long exposure times given by a nd1000 is the presence of strong wind that made me not at all quiet at an exposure time of over 1 minute

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I blended the images using luminosity masks, I increased warm colors in the highlights using a photo filter applied to apply image mask. As a first step with blended image I fixed the landscape perspectives with the transform tool. Stepped up contrasts using curve tool and added details and sharpen using TTS Fast Panel. I also launched with the panel orton effect to give a more dreamy look and with dodge and burn I darkened and lightened some parts around the fields and on the rocks. As final I added a vignetting to darken the edges of the photo

I hope you will find this usefull. I always love to ear that from you 🙂

The City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia that you see represented in one of its halls, was for me the main purpose of my trip to Valencia. For this reason I went to this place twice to be sure of being able to take advantage of the right light in the sky and various weather conditions, I have to say that the first day in the evening the sky was beautifully overcast and after an exploratory phase of the city Calatrava I decided to pause and do some shooting in this place,  in my opinion is one of the most characteristic. I recommend everyone to visit the city of arts and sciences because it is attractive as well as very funny, indeed inside the City of Arts and Sciences offers many attractions for young and old in the physical and scientific topic to explore interactively.
Coming to the picture: it was taken by a bridge which is right in front of the building of the city of arts and sciences, is a good view which allows to shot full architectural features. I made five exposures, which I worked from the under exposure to the over exposure lighting it with luminance masks, I used my actions (which for those who does not still have I suggest you download them in the free downloads section) to increase golden hour, sharpening, details and reduce noise. For the last touch I set the saturation of colors with the LAB coloring technique.

I take several photos in this place, follow updates I just hope not to bore you 🙂

After the beautiful days in Seville I went in the no less beautiful Valencia, here the photography spots are very much and I started precisely with a picture very representative of the city, the view of the Cathedral of Valencia, very big and with high ceilings it guards inside the cup of Holy Grail. The Cathedral of Valencia although it is a very important visit spot has a flow of tourists very well spread out in groups, this allows to visit it calmly without the crowd of people, and above all take pictures without too many tourists in front of the lens 🙂
When I took this picture I had in mind a vertorama and I did different tests at various distances in the nave of the cathedral, the main difficulty was trying to reconnect with those columns from the top to the bottom, without the help of the tripod, but I found that with photomerge function Photoshop CC2015 with a steady hand they can make beautiful collage. I combined the images and processed entirely the result with Camera Raw.

A detail below the columns of the beautiful Plaza de España in Seville. I can say without exageration that this is one of the most beautiful squares I’ve ever seen in my life. Plaza de España is a square full of beautiful and semicircular building with symmetrical construction. Inside the square there is a semicircular waterway where you can rent boats to sightseeing the square by the river. During my visit in Plaza de España it was hit by a warm, bright sun that brought that day the temperature to 25 degrees in the middle of December 🙂
I realized 3 bracketed shots, I used all three shots to take with the luminance masks the desired brightness in the most contrasting areas of the colonnade. I deleted some tourists passing in the distance and I emphasized the effect of sunlight through the columns of the square.

Twelve Sides of Gold

Giuseppe Sapori - Twelve sides of Gold

This is the Seville Tower of Gold (in Spanish Torre del Oro) is one of the landmarks of the city, the whole area surrounding the tower is a belvedere through Guadalquivir river. The river banks are a nice walk with bicycle lanes, a bridge overlooking the river where it can be admired a landscape of the city flanked by the tower. The Tower of Gold is composed of twelve sides and 36 meters high is an important symbol for the people of Seville, the story has it that a result of the Lisbon earthquake, the tower was badly damaged and on that occasion the Marquis de Monte Real we proposed the demolition to widen the adjacent street but, in the face of strong opposition from the local population, the idea of the demolition was abandoned. I planned this photo after a small scout of the area, having seen the bridge in fact, my first idea was to photograph the tower from the bridge, but did not offer the view I was hoping for… So I went down to the base of the bridge where I found the picture you see, the bar on the right with a little muddy foregroud, riverside and the beautiful tower of gol in the background was exactly the composition I was looking for.

When I take these shots I take exposures for the foreground and for the tower, to have all the images needed to apply a bracketed focus stacking. (for any clarification there’s a tutorial here). So 3 exposures to focus on the part of the foreground and 3 other exposures to focus properly the tower, I combined them with photomerge and then proceed to the traditional interventions with Photoshop. That’s all!

The Metropol Parasol in Seville, as I write some time ago on my facebook page this gigantic wooden structure was one of the key points of my visit in the beautiful Spanish city of Seville. The Metropol Parasol stands at the center of a large square near the city center where it’s possible to go upstairs with an elevator and then walk on the wooden frame to admire the beautiful panorama of the city.

That day I was particularly lucky because during the dusk the sky becomes cloudy, the right conditions to take my shots, between clouds and filtered light of sunset.
I take this picture from 5 exposures, I had wait a bit ‘on the steps to wait for the passage of people/tourist on the bridge of Metropol Parasol… despite the time was still a lot, however I realized my series of exposures without much trouble 🙂 I worked the images almost completely with the use of Luminance Masks and Camera Raw.
