Giuseppe Sapori - Misty trails

As you easily guess¬†we are in Venice ūüôā There are¬†many years that I was missing from this amazing and beautiful city,¬†that always leaves me literally speechless. I went back to Venice with this picture in mind, a light trail of the passage of boats under the Accademia Bridge. The Accademia Bridge although it isn’t a historic bridge (is newly built entirely of wood) is a necessary step to connect across the south of Venice, Sestriere Dorsoduro, with the district of San Marco. From the Accademia Bridge¬†you can admire one of the best views of Venice, the “Canal Grande” with all its wonderful sights and in the horizon the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute. That day there was a lot of fog in the city and although the dome at the bottom is a bit hidden by a foggy effect,¬†in my opinion, this gives an interesting landscape of Venice out of the ordinary.

To realize this image, I started taking photos just before the blue hour to finish to make the last shots in the dark late, I made 12 shots (some discarted) with various exposures that helped me to take various boat light trails. Then I started from a clean light and color shot and then, gradually, I added the other exposures as layers in Photoshop to add trails on the water.

Under the bridge

Giuseppe Sapori - Under the bridge

I am back from my long weekend spent in Veneto in the north of Italy. Saturday I spent the afternoon in the beautiful town of Bassano del Grappa, a place that I already knew and that last year I photographed under the stars over Christmas. The little city of Bassano del Grappa is one of my favorites in Veneto and this year, before taking a tour of the beautiful Christmas markets, I made osome shots to the famous Alpine Bridge (Ponte degli Alpini).

When I come to the bridge I found some¬†work in progress from the non-visible part of this picture so I decided to give it an alternative shot on the river banks. It was enough¬†delve a little bit at the bottom and climb over the fence to get somewhere in this picturesque small rocks bank that looks at the bridge, everything else did the sky and the city of Bassano ūüôā

I applied the Focus Stacking  in the whole picture, putting at first to fire the rocks in the foreground, then the more distant and finally the horizon of the bell tower. If you want more information on the focus stacking I recommend you go there to read this article  on 500px ISO written by Max Foster. I applied some variation to thist utorials for every focused image I did 3 expoures Bracketing, in various moments of the evening, In this way I had the availability of more overexposed and underexposed picture for contrast, exposure and details editing.

Picture from the slums of the Tevere¬†at¬† Sant’Angelo bridge, with its castle. The bridge of Sant’Angelo does not need any introduction, every time I shoot in my city is one of my favorite photo destinations. ūüėÄ ¬†The final result¬†is a series of bracketing expoures obtained from seven long ones, I wanted to capture as much as possible from the sky that threatened rain and I did ūüôā

Exposures were processed with Photoshop CC through the layer stacking (not all used) and the use of luminance masks, starting from the image darker and going slowly to lighten the rest of the photos with other exposures.

I have been many times in Venice but I never managed to take a photo that satisfied me of Rialto‘s bridge. Below Rialto is the right angle that I always wanted to give to this bridge, taking the image from the landing dock for gondolas.
