And here’s again talking about Tuscany countryside, this time the photo is at sunset and precisely taken from a phenomenal location that is behind the main square of Montepulciano. A terrace with a magnificent sunset front view where you can admire all the world famous beauty of the Tuscany

To make this photo I captured different exposures to have a good dynamic range between the sun and the countryside, the light was direct and very strong so I needed a good margin between the shots. If you want to read more about how to shoot in the direction of the sun I realized this guide some time ago 🙂

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I blended the images togheder with the use of luminosity masks, with which I also increased contrast. For the first I corrected color cast, always difficult to make it later, specially with sun direction images. I increased details and sharpen in the whole frame, and corrected light and shadow using luminosity masks applied to curves adjustment layer. I used orton effect to increase glow and contrast in the picture, then with dodge and burn I lightened  the sunrays and darkened some edges of the mountains

I increased glow effect in the picture to lighten the sky that was too dark after my blendings, so with camera raw I made some other adjustments about highlighs, lights, contrast and vibrance. After a little last touch of contrat I also created a small vignette to give more light at the center image

I would recomment do download TTS Fast Panel that will be very usefull to lanch many of the effect I was talking about above. I hope you will find this usefull, I’m always happy to ear feedback from you

View of Dolomites from the main way long Tre Cime,  one on the left the Rifugio Auronzo, it is the first refuge you meet after leaving your car for the Tre Cime park. I took this photo on the way back from the other refuge more far away, the Refuge Locatelli. The sun was almost down completely down and I was about to exit, but I took the opportunity to take one last photo of the magnificent scenery of the area

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

Given the poor light, I took single exposures without bracketing, I edited in Photoshop this single long exposure with adobe camera raw first and later using luminosity masks, to bring back some exposure in the sky and lighten the rocks in the foreground. With TTS Fast Panel I launched, high details, sharpen and dodge and burn with I lightened the rocks in the foreground and darkened the edges of the mountais

With orton effect I create a soft dreamy glow effect, then using a warm photo filter I increased yellows in the sky. I fixed contrast and light again using luminosity masks at as final touch I added a darken lighten center effect from color efex pro filter. As always I hope you can find this usefull, I always happy to ear it from your

Frostbite Touch

I took this picture at the lake Calaita in Trentino a few kilometers from Fiera di Primiero, lake Calaita is a small alpine lake is located in the upper Vanoi valley and is a spectacular balcony on the Pale of San Martino. The day that photograph this lake was not very cold, but the wind is channeled between the mountains was something of incredibly icy, I am not surprised that the lake was frozen, at the end of my shooting session though I was I covered much I had to spend a few minutes in the car to warm myself back  😀

I made several shots at sunset, using  focus stacking technique between the rocks and the mountain, I took with a very wide dynamic range since there was a strong contrast between the foreground and highlights

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I blended the exposures of lake Calaita with focus stacking to focus all the rocks and mountain in the frame, then I blended again the results images with luminosity masks. I correct the color cast then with TTS Fast Panel and I launched details and sharpen to increase them, finally I launched dodge and burn to increase the light around the stones and darken the images around them

With luminosity masks I decreased highlighs and I fixed light around the mountain, always with my panel I launched orton effect to increase the glow in the picture. With the help of hue/saturation I decreased some blue too much up, as the final touch I launched levels adjustment layer to fix the exposure in the frame. I hope you will find this information usefull, if you have any tips, write it as well. I always love to hear you 🙂

Misty Trails

As you easily guess we are in Venice 🙂 There are many years that I was missing from this amazing and beautiful city, that always leaves me literally speechless. I went back to Venice with this picture in mind, a light trail of the passage of boats under the Accademia Bridge. The Accademia Bridge although it isn’t a historic bridge (is newly built entirely of wood) is a necessary step to connect across the south of Venice, Sestriere Dorsoduro, with the district of San Marco. From the Accademia Bridge you can admire one of the best views of Venice, the “Canal Grande” with all its wonderful sights and in the horizon the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute. That day there was a lot of fog in the city and although the dome at the bottom is a bit hidden by a foggy effect, in my opinion, this gives an interesting landscape of Venice out of the ordinary.

To realize this image, I started taking photos just before the blue hour to finish to make the last shots in the dark late, I made 12 shots (some discarted) with various exposures that helped me to take various boat light trails. Then I started from a clean light and color shot and then, gradually, I added the other exposures as layers in Photoshop to add trails on the water.

Until this moment I have posted only pictures of my last trip in Greece and Meteora. I make a short stop before continuing with the pictures of my last trip, posting this photo quite recently made last month at my girlfriend’s house. The photo is one single shot made not too distant from private houses, although there was a fairly light pollution with some clouds the stars were visible, nevertheless I had to do a lot of work in Photoshop to bring out the “best” from this image.

What I Do

I made this picture by just one shot, I wanted to see if I could bring out the stars and a subject at the same time, I was not much to think about exposure and the composition because in reality the main photo was another (i will post it). This inattention has cost me a lot…I counted  around 18 levels of Photoshop between before and after. Having made just one shot was a mistake, I had the problem of “dose” exposure between the portions of the pictures was too dark and the too light ones.  This time even luminance masks was not very usefull,  the whole image was treated practically only with the filters and Camera Raw.  Oh well obviously in the picture is me 🙂

Last in the series of photos taken inside the Doria Pamphili Palace. This image depicts the main corridor, lit by large windows is one of the most iconic images of the Roman palace. To take this HDR I had to wait a lit bit that there were people as this is the most photographed part of the building. HDR was also made with the 32-bit mode from single shot

To access to the upper floor of the inside of  Hagia Sophia basilica, you have to go through this hall that leads to the stairs. The light reflecting off the window in front of the chandelier and soft lighting makes in this room  an enchanting play of light. I made this HDR handheld because in Hagia Sophia you can not bring any kind of stands inside. I had to wait several minutes for anyone who does not pass in this room, it is a must to go upstairs.
