Giuseppe Sapori - Road to the stars

We’re back on the Gran Sasso, this is the road that leads to the summit of the mountain to the valley of Campo Imperatore. I had stopped for some time with the car in this area and after shooting my main shot I started exploring different angles to find some other interesting spot.

I made this picture by a single shot taken at ISO 3200 f2.8 and 30 sec, I developed two different processing to the sky and to the foreground. At first I opened Camera Raw trying to set the correct values to view all parts of the picture and saved the result. Than I opened the same image in Camera Raw setting values of high contrast and  everything that could bring out the most of the beauty of the milky way. Open the two images as layers I then auto align them, with the help of layer masks I  replaced the first sky to the second. Other major initiatives were a dodge and burn to the colors of the Milky Way, sharpening, detail, contrast, noise reduction and LAB Coloring.

Giuseppe-Sapori---Meteor

I took this picture while I was on the promontory overlooking the meteors. What you see in the background is the town Kalambaka located at the foot of the beautiful monasteries. In the image on the left is the impressive monastery of Agia Triada, the most difficult to achieve, personally I climbed up to the top starting from Kalambaka and I assure you that it was hard 😀

The photo was taken on the road that connects all the meteors on top with each other, the image is the result of a single shot that I edited completely using Camera Raw. I stepped up the reflection of light to give more depth to the image that  looked too flat before. For the rest it was all a work of contrasts, lights and shadows using layer masks.

HDR Before/After – Vitaleta

I love the isolated places like this… the choice of the scene in peace to wait for the right moment to shoot. In those moments you think only at the spend of time without worrying about other things as often happens in cities with traffic cars and especially tourists 😀

I made this HDR with  five exposures with a gap of 1 (-2, -1, 0 + 1, +2). Then I merged the images with Photoshop CC with the function “Merge to HDR Pro”. I have to say that I was in doubt whether to use this function or flatten individual as I usually only using layer masks, but for this picture the HDR Pro function was very satisfactory so i kept this version. The rest of the interventions were all made using Camera Raw and masking the effect in the desired areas. I work particularly  in  lights and colors effects, some detail has been added on the buildings and on the turf, as a final touch, I created a small vignette to give more depth to the image.

HDR 32 bit

What is HDR 32 bit? It’s a different method of processing and merge the brackets exposures. You know that you can reach a good results with Photomatix that use the tonemap method. Tonemapping usually use 16 bit mode, this really boils down to is the volume of information that is stored within a file. Tonemapping can create a cool HDR effect but when using this method

Giuseppe Sapori - Rainbow OvercasstI took this photo in Hvar from the terrace of my hotel. What you see in this picture is the left side of the main harbour of the island, I made this from a single image, it is a single shot taken without a tripod leaning on a railing of the terrace. I mainly worked with the luminance masks and the Camera Raw Filter in  Photoshop CC to lighten / darken image elements.HDR

Single shot HDR

Tags :

It is not always possible performing 3 or more shots to make a HDR. When we take photos of people or objects in motion, the fusion of images obtained in the HDR would be blurred and not detailed. In these cases, if we want to process this picture like an HDR, we have to take our shot in RAW mode. So open your RAW file in Photoshop with Camera Raw.

To do a single shot HDR, we need to create 3 separate images that you can merge adjusting the exposures and saving the three photos with different names:
