The view from the Rialto bridge in Venice. Rialto Bridge is one of the most busiest and visited in the lagoon city, between gondolas and boats passing under it, even the bridge itself is always full of people practically at all hours of the day, but with a little patience a space to take pictures is always free ūüôā

Compared with the other photos called¬† “Venice Moving” I changed the type of movement moving from a movement of gondolas due to the wave motion to a movement of passage in the canal under Rialto

I took this picture with a series of long exposures and a nd 3 stop ND filter. Among the various results I particularly liked this with movements clearly visible unlike other light trails

 

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

This is a single exposure work, I make the first changes with the luminosity of the store lights, decreasing the effect. With a brush and using a new layer I replied the original color above the light trail of the boats to makethem more visible, then I changed the layer mode soft light to give a lighter effect

I fixed contrast using luminosity masks applied to lights, darks and midtones, using my panel I launched details and  dodge and burn to lighten the darker part of the image and softy lighten the buildings

I fixed the color cast and I add some warm/pink filter to give a different look at the image. As final step I applied a small vignette to the frame

Golden Blue

I like Santander, both within the same town and just outside, offering lots of photographic spots and beautiful places to see. This is the case of the Magdalena Peninsula, a city park located on this small natural place

The place occupies a well-kept park with an area dedicated to see local sea fauna, museums and panoramic views. I found this little beach right in this peninsula where I shot some photos. For this shot  to avoid direct sunshine I took 7 bracketing shots with an nd64 filter

 

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I started blending the images, I discarted the too overexposed and underexposed shots to obtain a base shot. I created luminosity masks contrasts and I added some warm look using a filter

With TTS Fast Panel I increased details, sharpen and I use it for launch dodge and burn with I fixed some lights and shadows around the rocks, I also used a little orton effect and I added some more contrast and a light vignette to give more dark look at the image

Night from Day

Probably soon, I will return to this beautiful place, while I look at the old shots made the last time I went to Campo Imperatore to photograph the milky way I found this untreated photo

That afternoon I made some shots at the beautiful rocky lake and then moved to the point where the milky way was better visible at night, this is just one of the shots I did at the time of the first darks of night, at the time discarded but today revalued

The reflections of clouds and stars on the water of the lake create a magical atmosphere throughout the picture. At that time I probably had discarded it because the sky was too cloudy and the milky street was almost on the opposite side but having found a shot with this particular light was almost a surprise ūüôā

 

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I had only a shot, indeed two! The second is another picture with more foreground and less sky, I blended the two images to have a more complete frame with sky and foreground

I worked this picture only using luminosity masks applied to curves and other effect launched from my panel, high details, sharpen and dodge and burn as well. I also edited the colors warming the sky and pushing up some highlighs, I increased contrast and darkness to give a dark mood to the picture

As the final touch I reduce noise,¬†at some points in the photo there was visible. I hope you will find this usefull, I’m always happy to ear it from you!

The Twilight Set

Piazza Grande¬†in Montepulciano, is the main square that is in this city and is reached after a uphill way in the upper part of Montepulciano. This town is rich in art and history, and as well as seeing all the places shown in the twilight saga, you’ll come across plenty of interesting sights in this beautiful, cobblestoned town. Do not miss the Piazza Grande with its town hall and tower, seen in the exciting scene where Bella saves Edward

I used my ND filters to remove all the people who was in the square of Montepulciano, since they were a small center to say the truth were not so many people but it was a lot easier removing them using filters. I made several shots from the sunset lights to the evening, to keep the shots at various times of the day

 

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I selected some of the best shots taken and I blended them with luminosity masks. With the result, I choice some other earlier hour shot to remove the stronger light coming from the church simply using a layer mask. I made some color adjust reducing the violet strong color of blue hour and I aligned the square fixing proportions and angles

I launched high details and sharpen with my panel and I created some light in the foreground using dodge and burn. After increasing contrast and light using levels, I made the final touch with darken lighten center effect of color efex  pro filter

Frostbite Touch 2

This picture is always from the lake Calaita in Trentino som minutes before the picture of my previous post. This lake is an amazing place, and I hope to come back here soon during sping, in order to photograph it with other colors and to admire the transparency of its waters

 

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

The workflow of this shot is very close from my previous post, except for the focus stacking, that I not applied it having taken this picture from a different height I was not close to the rocks and the fire was the same between the two low points and high image. I blended the shots with luminosity masks. I correct the color cast and then with my panel  I launched high details and sharpen to increase details in the frame, I used dodge and burn to increase the light around the stones and darken the images around them

With luminosity masks I decreased highlighs and I fixed light around the mountain, always with fast panelI launched orton effect to create a soft glow effect. With the help of hue/saturation I decreased blue on the top of the picture applied to a gradient to remove the effect in the lower part of the picture, as the final touch I increasesed vibrance using LAB color technique.¬†I hope you will find this information usefull,¬†if you have any tips, write to me. Siena

The heart of Siena in a photo, the beautiful cathedral in middle of the square¬†town e in a late December afternoon. I made this photo from a series of shots, from a minimum of 5 seconds to a maximum of 30 using a filter nd64 -6 stop. Try to¬†imagine how many people, tourists and some vehicles was in the square at five of afternoon, i tried to “clean all” using a long exposure with the filter, specifically I use Haida filter and holder on my Nikon 14-24, I use Haida filters ¬†for about 2 months and so far have always behaved very well ūüôā

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I blended the exposures taken together using luminosity masks, I had the shots taken at different times of the evening, I blended  2 shots  between best sky and less people/more light trails available in one final frame. With TTS Fast Panel I used dodge and burn to lighten some dark parts of the foreground and darken some too light part of the cathedral

With the transform command I repositioned the perspective of the photo correcting some falling lines, especially among the buildings around the basilica. I used luminosity masks to correct lights and highlights behind the cathedral and to lighten the foreground that was very dark, with my panel I launched details and sharpen. At the end I increased contrast using curves exalting the middle light

Lights and Bounds

Photo taken in the port area of Skopelos, from here it is a small rocky beach behind a walkway from the port. I made this photo at sunset from a series of bracketed shot, where I applied focus stacking between the rocks that are in the foreground and the hill which is seen in the background. I take 5 bracketed shots per series but I decided to use only 3 for it

WORKFLOW EXPLANATION

I opened my bracketed shots series in Photoshop and I align them for blending (for more information about focus stacking blending please read this article). At the end of this process, I create a series of three shots aligned and ready for edits. I applied luminosity masks to use darks to lighten the foreground, then increased contrast with midtones 3 applied to curves

Using my panel I launched dodge and burn to make some adjustments on the rocks and on the sea, then I launched orton effect to increase glow and darken the image. Next, I create some color correction using lab color and hue/saturation to adjust blues and yellows, then increased contrast again to have more highlighs and more darkenss on the foreground. As always In applied details and sharpness to the entire frame, without including the sea. As a final touch  using camera raw I lowered the exposure and raised slightly up the shadows

Coastal Sunset II

If you liked my previous post, surely you appreciate this too, because this is the same location but¬†taken from a closer position… and with less light course ūüôā

After taking all the pictures on the cliff for the view from the top (I was precisely halfway between Amalfi and Atrani) I started to descend the cliff to direct me back to Amalfi to catch the last but to go home. A notice: My stay was in Maiori, a town not far from there, because Amalfi city is really very expensive

Anyway this is the view that welcomes the entrance of the city. I stopped on this place to take some shoots here, it was starting to get dark, the lights of the village were on and I did not want to miss a lighted shooting Amalfi in a late blue hour with citylights

The Awake

The City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia that you see represented in one of its halls, was for me the main purpose of my trip to Valencia. For this reason I went to this place twice to be sure of being able to take advantage of the right light in the sky and various weather conditions, I have to say that the first day in the evening the sky was beautifully overcast and after an exploratory phase of the city Calatrava I decided to pause and do some shooting in this place,  in my opinion is one of the most characteristic. I recommend everyone to visit the city of arts and sciences because it is attractive as well as very funny, indeed inside the City of Arts and Sciences offers many attractions for young and old in the physical and scientific topic to explore interactively.
Coming to the picture: it was taken by a bridge which is right in front of the building of the city of arts and sciences, is a good view which allows to shot full architectural features. I made five exposures, which I worked from the under exposure to the over exposure lighting it with luminance masks, I used my actions (which for those who does not still have I suggest you download them in the free downloads section) to increase golden hour, sharpening, details and reduce noise. For the last touch I set the saturation of colors with the LAB coloring technique.

I take¬†several photos in this place, follow updates I just hope not to bore you ūüôā

The Black Sand Sunset

This¬†is the Kamari beach¬†in Santorini, it was very nice to see the powerful light of sunset tick from the mountain with the typical colors of the blue hour. Kamari is one of the¬†places of Santorini where you can find restaurants, bars but also good beach… here the beach is made of very small black rocks renamed precisely Black Sand Beach. That day I was going to dinner and I was without my tripod, so I made this picture by a single shot, pointing to the rocks my camera focus with a f4 and a ISO higher¬†of my usual average. In Photoshop I have tried to emphasize the yellow¬†colors, “bringing back”¬†the time behind the blue hour that there was at that time. If you want to see how to intensify the yellow or golden hour look¬†this tutorial. I also sharpen more than i could, the rocks and the foreground.
